This time of year, I get what my grandfather called 'the flits'. It's a desire to be Out out, and to be seen, and feel like I am really alive and in the world. Possibly similar to what drives other animals in the spring! Sometimes it feels like a bubbly inner restlessness- but a pleasant, not anxious experience. London in the spring is a fantastic place.
I'm also sorry to hear about your family news Rebecca. Sending love and fortitude.
In the bar
I just made the chicory! I've never made anything like it before, it was wonderful, both in the cooking and the eating.
This St John evening is what I LOVE about your writing - your social observations are so juicy and flavorful ;)
The way you described your dining experience at the bar had me feeling I'd join you there. I'm going to come back to the post to re-read the recipe.
loved this so much, made me want to——need to!!——take myself out to dinner-at-a-bar

Catalyst is great! Sorry though to hear about your family news. Hope everything is okay, and wishing all the best.
I recently learnt that starch inhibits crispness in roast potatoes and if you wash three times it helps - it really does ! Try it next time -
