This time of year, I get what my grandfather called 'the flits'. It's a desire to be Out out, and to be seen, and feel like I am really alive and in the world. Possibly similar to what drives other animals in the spring! Sometimes it feels like a bubbly inner restlessness- but a pleasant, not anxious experience. London in the spring is a fantastic place.
I'm also sorry to hear about your family news Rebecca. Sending love and fortitude.
I just made the chicory! I've never made anything like it before, it was wonderful, both in the cooking and the eating.
ahh so happy to hear that! X
This St John evening is what I LOVE about your writing - your social observations are so juicy and flavorful ;)
The way you described your dining experience at the bar had me feeling I'd join you there. I'm going to come back to the post to re-read the recipe.
loved this so much, made me want to——need to!!——take myself out to dinner-at-a-bar
Same. Must-get-out. Just by myself with a good book.
Sending you best wishes and condolences Rebecca.
Thanks! And you must!!

Catalyst is great! Sorry though to hear about your family news. Hope everything is okay, and wishing all the best.
we loved it too! And thank you Aaron – a close bereavement, Sam's father, but he's doing OK.
I recently learnt that starch inhibits crispness in roast potatoes and if you wash three times it helps - it really does ! Try it next time -
Ooh I soaked them in water before cooking which I think also helped this time - will rinse more times too - thanks for the information!
